It’s 1957. Russia has launched Sputnik. Elvis appears on the Ed Sullivan Show. Nine African American students enroll at Little Rock Central High. But for ten-year-old Katy Gordon, life is all about baseball. She’s the best pitcher in the neighborhood and she makes the coveted little league team - until they find out she’s a girl.
Katy knows it’s not fair that she can’t play. She sets out to prove that she's not the only girl who plays baseball. With the help of a librarian, Katy discovers the forgotten history of female baseball players. Where are they now? How can one ten-year-old change people’s minds about what girls can do? This is a story about the fight for equal rights and strong and hopeful characters.
This book is recommended for kids 8+.
